Stalking the shorelines and jungles of the North Shore, Mark’s group goes only after the most dangerous prey: Beautiful Beach Scenes and Lush Tropical Enclaves. Mark Brown is Hawai’i’s riposte to Japan’s “Living National Treasures.” With a unique local impressionistic style, his from the hip method of hitting color notes while mixing with the brush is something to behold.
I’ve had the privilage of hanging one of his painting in the lobby of 820 Bethel Street and I didn’t understand why his work was held in such high regard until it was up, and I saw its reflected light fill the space with the warmth of an afternoon’s beach light—in the middle of the night.
The most formal method taught on Oahu, with a meticulously organized pallete, and color strings; William Zwick is the on-island light-bearer for Traditional Academic Renaissance Atelier Training.
